Healthe Care Heroes - Brian Green

Throughout the recent bushfire crisis, many volunteers stepped up and went above and beyond for their community. Read more about Brian's story.

Brian Green is a long serving member of staff at Brisbane Waters Private Hospital, where he is both the Fire & Safety Officer and Maintenance Coordinator. Brian has also been a member of Fire & Rescue NSW at Umina Fire Station (formerly Ettalong and Woy Woy Stations) since 1994.

Brian and his crew were first called to the Drake fires near Tenterfield in northern NSW for a 5 day stint (2 days travel and 3 days fire fighting), back burning in residential areas to help protect properties and provide reassurance for residents.

Following that placement, Brian and his crew went to Casino and the Rappville fires where 30 houses had been lost. "After the fire had gone through there, we assisted with extinguishing all the fallen trees and branches over the roads and anything along the sides of the roads," said Brian.

Brian's crew was then recalled to fight the large Gospers Mountain fire near the NSW Central Coast. The crew worked 14-16 hour days in the area around Bucketty and Mangrove Mountain, back burning to create an 18 kilometre prevention line helping to protect the Central Coast from attack.

The most recent fire that Brian attended was in the Charmhaven/Blue Haven area of the Central Coast. It began on New Year's Eve - a total fire ban day - and when they put a trike team together to act as the first responders, Brian was once again there working on the frontline to 2:00am.

Love Your Work Brian, thank you for your service to our community!
